Breakfast Ball #40: Tyrrell Hatton is on the Charge
Hatton wins the Dunhill Links Championship as the newest PGA Tour players are decided in the Korn Ferry Tour
It is an abbreviated newsletter this week as I am currently on a flight back from Chicago after watching the Chicago Bears take down the Carolina Panthers at Soldier Field. If there are any typos blame it on the American Airlines wifi. Bear Down!

Tyrrell Hatton started 2024 in a very interesting place. He had a successful Ryder Cup in 2023, winning 3.5 out of a possible 4 points for the European team. However, he had not had an individual win since 2021 and there were rumors that he was about to leave the PGA Tour for LIV Golf to join Jon Rahm’s newly formed Legion XIII team. Hatton has always had a unique personality; he never seems to truly enjoy himself on the golf course and regularly speaks his mind without worrying about repercussions. Perhaps a transfer to LIV Golf would be the right move.
10 months later, Hatton has two individual wins under his belt and his first top 10 finish at The Masters. A different schedule and a change of scenery on LIV has given him a new lease of life to play some of the best golf of his career to date.
The Dunhill Links Championship is played across three iconic Scottish courses in the first 3 days, before finishing at the Old Course at St Andrew’s on Sunday. Going into Saturday, Hatton was inside the top 10 as he shot 65 and 68 at Carnoustie and Kingsbarns the first two days of the week. However, Hatton produced his best golf on Saturday at St. Andrew’s with an 11-under 61 that tied the course record. He then approached the final hole on Sunday tied with Nicholas Colsaerts, a Ryder Cup Vice Captain in 2023. When Colsaerts could only make par, Hatton clipped a beautiful pitch to 2 feet and sunk the putt for birdie to win.
Hatton is the first player to ever win the Dunhill Links Championship three times as he added a 7th DP World Tour title that vaults him into 5th in the Ryder Cup qualification standings. It would be a shame if he ended his career without a major championship. He has the talent and with a change in scenery, it looks like his mind is in the right place. Could 2025 be the time for Tyrrell Hatton to take the next step?
